Our opening night gala and concert is a well established event on Montreal's cultural calendar! Offered with free admission, you will be able to hear wonderful musicians throughout the night: pianist Tristan Longval-Gagné (Prix d'Europe winner), flamboyant violinist Nuné Mélikian, singer Ella Wilhelm, and a surprising exclusivity: Flavien Roger at the bassoon, accompanied by the irreplaceable Jean-Eudes Vaillancourt at the piano. All of it following a program entirely dedicated to the sublime music of Russian composers!

Sadko's Round-the-World Trip

Do you know Sadko? Blending adventures and fantasy, Sadko is a movie that will allow you to discover this central figure of Russian folk tales, as well as composer Rimsky-Korsakov's sublime music he has inspired. As a prelude to the screening, Irina Krasnyanskaya, artistic director of the festival, will offer a short lecture on composer Rimsky-Korsakov and Soviet animated movies.

Quatrix: Stravinsky's Tales
Quartet concert: 2 percussion / 2 pianos
Music like you've never heard before! Quatrix (2 pianos - 2 percussion) will present on May 31st two original transcriptions of Stravinsky's most famous ballets: Petrushka and The Rite of Spring. Two grand pianos, countless percussion instruments, and four musicians on stage that will replace an entire orchestra through the extraordinary combination of pianos and percussion. A spectacular concert on the horizon!
