Dear friends,
How excited and thrilled we are every year when the beginning of the Russian Seasons approaches! It's very soon that we will be able to see the result of a whole year of preparation: we are now ready to present to you the best of Slavic music, the music that speaks to our hearts in joy as in pain ...
If Slavic music seems so close to us all, it is because it is rooted in folklore. There is probably no other culture in which music has been influenced so much by folk tales, fantasy and wisdom. This is why, this year, our theme will be Tales in music.
Every Slavic composer found an inspiration in folk tales. Sometimes they even invented stories themselves and then wrote musical tales based on them! We will explore these musical treasures from Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf to Rimsky-Korsakov's Sadko and Scheherazade via Stravinsky's Petrushka or Janáček's Pohádka.
So many great stories to tell, and a handful of wonderful artists to do it! Among many others, Nathalie Choquette, Cameron Crozman, Philip Chiu, Quatrix, and the New Generation Orchestra will be your musical storytellers ...
Once upon a time ... the 2020 edition of the Russian Seasons in Montreal ...
Irina Krasnyanskaya, artistic director.
